Week 158 - Car

  • I sold my Audi S3 this week. I bought it new almost 11 years ago and it’s been an excellent car. It’s taken me to-and-from work, on holidays, around the country, and it safely transported both of my newly-born children home from the hospital.
  • I decided to use Motorway to avoid the pain of dealing with private buyers. It was mostly fine. I drove the car to a nearby garden centre to firstly get it cleaned and then to take photos for the listing. Motorway requires you to take many photos within its app, however when I lost mobile signal and returned home to finish the uploads, the app restarted and at least half the photos had disappeared. Frustrating.
  • The rest of the process went smoothly and a few days later I was told a dealer had won the auction. A man visited to collect the car, and as expected knocked a few hundred quid off for some dents, a tyre and a scuff I’d missed. Lesson learned: detail everything on the listing. Then he took it away.
  • So of course, with my petrol car gone, I had problems charging my new electric car this week. The charger failed to connect to its server to accept an off-peak schedule and only on the second power-cycling did it finally work.
  • It’s been the last full week of the school summer holidays. L and the boys spent a few fun days at her parents’ house in Wiltshire while I was working, so it was very quiet here. They’re home today. One more Inset Day and then school’s back.
